This is Facebook’s plan to be cool again

Facebook was once considered cool, believe it or not.

But the things has changed since News Feed's early days, when it was filled with status updates and images from pals.

Facebook has become clogged with companies and pages competing for attention.

It has become a site where individuals, particularly teens and young adults, are hesitant to share details about their life.

After four years of attempting to improve the News Feed by trying to make it more about family and friends.

Facebook is now moving in the opposite direction: displaying you more fascinating material from people you don't know.

According to Tom Alison, Meta's head of the Facebook app, the result is a "latest update vision about how the Facebook app will adapt to a generation of people who will use it," during his first in-depth podcast conversation since taking the job in July 2021.

For the fifth episode of the new season of Land of the Giants, Vox Media Audio Network's award-winning narrative podcast series on the most prominent digital businesses of our time, we look at Facebook's Feed's past, present, and future.

This season, Recode as Well as the Verge collaborated on seven episodes to recount the narrative of Facebook's transformation into Meta, featuring interview with former and current executives.

This episode also includes commentary from Meta's chief policy officer, Nick Clegg, on the ramifications of the corporation gaining more influence over what billions of people view on Facebook and Instagram every day.

great majority of the stuff that individuals viewed on Facebook was influenced not only by our systems, but also by their own decisions, such as who their friends are, which groups they belong to, what content they interact with, and so on."

However, this is changing thanks to such new Discovery Engine plan. To make Facebook and Instagram mostly like TikTok, Meta will employ artificial intelligence to give users more content from strangers. What does this effort indicate for Facebook's future and how we can use it?

The fifth episode of Land of the Giants: The Facebook / Meta Disruption can be found here, and the first four episodes may be found on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you receive your podcasts.
